Germany’s melodic metal kings Edguy has released nine studioalbums, brand new “Age Of The Joker” as the most recent one. They have sold more than 2 million records and toured in nearly 40 countries. Not bad.
English goth pioneers Paradise Lost will be releasing their 13th studio album, “Tragic Idol” next spring. The previous effort “Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us” was an international success. Heavy yet beatiful, just the way Paradise Lost loves it.
DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER
The band’s biography describes it like it is: “Molotov cocktail of metal, folk, classic rock fused with influences of Spanish, Arabic, Scandinavian and traditional German music”. There you have it, first time ever in Finland.
Perhaps best known for his time as the bass player / clean vocalist of Dimmu Borgir, the Norwegian multi-talent I.C.S. Vortex has also put in work and logged many a mile with Borknagar, Arcturus and Lamented Souls.
It is, however, his namesake soloproject that takes him to the Finnish Metal Expo. Recent album “Stormseeker” is an excellent blend of black metal rooted, progressive and epic, well, metal with a touch of diesel flavored groove. Something you definitely want to check out.
Sweden’s latest progressive metal export Soen will be releasing their debut album “Cognitive” in February. Although the band is brand new, there is plenty of experience in the group; bass-duties are handled by none other than Steve DiGiorgio of Death and Testament fame and drummer Martin Lopez has once occupied the drum throne of Amon Amarth and Opeth.
SWALLOW THE SUN
Finland’s Swallow The Sun will release their new album in early February, just in time for the Finnish Metal Expo. Their last effort, “New Moon” solidified their spot on the top of the death/doom hierarchy.
Hailing from Saint Petersburg, OldSchool plays pure hard rock true to the spirit of the eighties. On their hometurf, OldSchool has opened for such greats as Whitesnake and W.A.S.P. to name a few.
Axegressor gives a standing salute to the thrash metal heroes of yesteryears. This is it in its purest form, no holds barred, full on thrash mayhem.
Seinäjoki, Finland based grindcore act Carnalation don’t let melodies and slow songs get in the way. They keep it fast and brutal. They were recently signed by Spinefarm who obviously know a good thing when they see one.
Finnish metalcore outfit Artificial Heart has gathered quite a following. The band appeared at the last FME in the Suomi Metal Star –contest and have now found a home at the ever-growing Spinefarm syndicate. Debut album dropping in late 2012.
